An Unusual Case of Spinal Syphilis

On the fifth day he developed paresis of the left leg and his right leg followed suit two days later, so that a week after his admission into hospital he was totally helpless in his lower limbs. His abdomen began to distend and his constipation could only be relieved by copious purgatives and intravenous pituitrin. On the ninth day after admission he showed slight paresis of his hands and often complained of a choking sensation in his chest. The knee jerks were lost, and there was no Babinski reflex.
